Motivation is tricky isn’t it? Sometimes you have loads, other times the tank is empty. There are days you can’t imagine missing your workout, but sometimes its far more of a struggle. That’s why we’ve put together some top tips for getting and staying motivated.
- Make it part of your lifestyle.
Don’t make hitting the gym a chore. If its part of your lifestyle there’s no reason to miss it. If your’e in the habit of going your less likely to miss a session, or even question weather you really want to go. A one hour workout is just 4% of the day, so we are pretty sure you can plan it in somewhere that’s realistic.
2. You don’t have to go it alone
For some people working out alone is best, but that’s not the way for everyone. Struggling to go it alone? Enlist a workout buddy. Not only will this add a fun, social element but it will also make you accountable, after all you don’t want to let your friend down do you? Not got a friend that you can go with? Get talking to people at the gym. You will share at least one common interest with them! Then the people you see regularly will be really helpful in keeping you motivated to workout.
3. Focus on the positives
When you really don’t want to go, think about how good you will feel if you do! Exercise will leave you on a high. Getting your body moving will create endorphins, when these are released your mood will lift.
4. Set yourself SMART goals
Small, manageable, achievable, realistic and time oriented goals. You’re ultimate or end goal may be to drop 5 dress sizes, but that isn’t something you will achieve quickly. Set yourself smaller goals so you are able to recognise your progress regularly. What better motivation is there than seeing how well you are doing?
